Today students will work on an 'introduction to PowerPoint' activity. Students should open up the PowerPoint inside student work called "8thGradeActivity" and do what it says on each slide.  We will review this on Wednesday, but try to complete as much as you already know how to do.
Once students are finished with the powerpoint activity, they should finish the Microsoft Movie Maker project. Remember to save a copy of your MovieMake Project in the "Final Movie Project" folder as a movie file.

Movie Maker is part of the Microsoft XP package.  If you have XP at home, you have the Movie Maker software.  I will explain some of the basics with the program and students will start the first activity.
For the final 10 minutes, students will have time to complete the Inside of the Computer test. Tomorrow we will continue with our Video Editing unit.

Go to www.flamingtext.com and make one heading picture that says 'your name' and one button that links to www.espn.com/.   Put both pictures into a blank web page (using Frontpage).
Following the warmups, Students will have time to complete the Personal Webpage activity.  This activity will be due today and I will be around to check people off. Remember to save all of your work into your Web Design Folder and to follow the below Web Design rules.

Warmup 1:
Open up Microsoft FrontPage and do the following steps. If you forget how to do something, check the Web Design Notes section below.
1) Type "This is Task 1" at the top of the page and center it, and enlarge the text size.
2) Below the text, add (by saving and inserting) this picture.

3) Below the picture type the following phrase: "Come to the BAMS Summer Party". You will then link the words "BAMS" to http://www.edline.net
4) Add this picture as the background to your webpage.

5) Change the colors of your hyperlinks (Format Background)
6) BONUS (see if you can figure this out on your own).  Insert a table on your webpage and list your top 5 Summer Activities!

Warmup 1:
Students will take a blank sheet of paper off the middle table and draw a picture of the internet. Include whatever you think of when you think of the internet - how it works, favorite websites & activities.
Today we will begin learning FrontPage and students will follow along with a demonstration on the overhead.  FrontPage is one of the top web page design programs available and we will begin our Web Design Unit by learning this program. All students should follow along with the demonstration.
The demonstration will be saved, and we will continue with it all this week.  We will also discuss some basic Web Design rules that must be followed for a successful unit.

Today students will prepare for the Excel Test tomorrow by completing the Excel Review. I will also be around to check off all Word & Excel work. Tomorrow students will have the entire period to complete the test.
Anyone who is finished with the Excel work, will begin our web design unit by learning about how the internet works. Students will then read this online article and answer the questions below. How Web Servers (and the internet) Work Article
Article Questions - do not begin these questions until you have read the article. You may however, go back through the article to check for answers.
Once students have submitted their answers on the article, they may work on their Typing Lessons until the end of the period.

Today's Objectives:
Students will be able to complete basic functions in Microsoft Excel.

Warmup #1:
Download this spreadsheet (click on this link and chose SAVE. Put it in your folder) and work through steps A-D.
step A: on part 1, calculate an average grade for each student.
Step B: on part 1, calculate 15% of each total.
Step C: on part 2, type out one formula in cell C4 that adds up the numbers in A1,B1,C1,D1, & E1 and then multiply the total by 2
Step D: on part 3, resize columns A, D, & F so the words don't overlap and fill in the cells with the colors.
Following the demo, students will work on the Advanced Graphing activity and the Ebay activity. All student work should be saved in your personal folders. REMEMBER any names left by the sub will be an automatic write up.

Today's Objectives:

Computer Basics Quiz: - don't start until a few announcements
Part 1:
(1) Create a folder on your C: drive and call it 'your name - Period #'
(2) Next create two more folders inside that one (inside the one called 'your name - period #') and call those two folders 'homework' and 'Boo'
(3) Now save the ghost picture as 'ghost' in your 'Boo' folder. (right click on the picture - 'save picture as')

(4) Open up Microsoft Word and save a blank word file as 'project' in your homework folder.
(5) Open up Microsoft Excel and save a blank excel file into your 'homework' folder and name it 'spreadsheet'. If you need help opening up Excel, let me know.
(6) Now open PowerPoint and save a blank presentation as 'demonstration' and save it into your homework folder
(7) Now close out of Excel. Open Word, and open up a word file on the I: drive called 'Friday'.  You will resave (save as) this file in your 'homework' folder and call it 'finished'.
(8) Go back into your homework folder and delete the excel file you saved as 'spreadsheet'.
(9) Finally, rename your homework folder and call it 'assignments'.
Part 2:

1) Open up Microsoft Word and add some word art saying 'your name'.
2) Next, customize the word art (change the colors) by right clicking on it - and formatting word art.
3) Next, move your word art to the center of the page.
4) Add a piece of 'soccer' related clipart and move it below your wordart (name).
5) Now, create a text box below your word art and type in "today is September 1st"
6) Finally, change the line color of the text box to red.
BONUS: chance the fill of the text box to be a color.

Students will be able to create folders, save files, and manage windows XP.
Classroom Agenda:
Warmup 1:
NOTE: Save all files as 'activity 1'
1) Open up the C: drive and create a folder called 'Task 1'.
2) Then inside that 'Task 1' folder, create three more folders called 'Word', 'Excel', and 'PowerPoint'.
3) Open up Microsoft Word and save a word file on your C drive (in your 'Word' folder) called activity 1.
4) Open up Microsoft Excel and save an excel file on your C drive (in your 'Excel' folder) called activity 1.
5) Open up Microsoft PowerPoint and save a PowerPoint file on your C drive (in your 'PowerPoint' folder) called activity 1.
6) Next, close out of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint if you haven't yet.
7) Next, move the Garfield folder (it's on the C drive) into your Task 1 folder.
8) Finally, save the picture below into your Garfield folder.

Following the computer basic' introduction/review, Students will make a personal folder on the S: Drive where they will save all of their work. I will help with this.
Today students will also complete a Microsoft Word Review (which is an old test) and save it in your personal folder on the S: Drive.  The Word Review can be downloaded on your computer. (You must open that word file before beginning) Check with the students next to you if you get it open to see if they need any help opening the review.

Today's Objectives:
Students will be able to log into their typing account and know how to record their typing scores.
Classroom Agenda:
Warmup 1: (don't start this task until I make a few announcements)
1) Open up the C: drive and then create a folder called 'your name'.
2) Inside that folder, create another folder and call it "homework"
3) Next, open up Microsoft Word and type your name. Then save that word file in the "homework" folder you just made and save it as "activity 1" (that will be the file name)
4) Next close out of Microsoft Word
5) Then, open up Microsoft Excel and save that excel file in the "homework" folder you just made and save it as "activity 2" (that will be the file name)
6) Finally, go through 'My Computer' and find the folder you called 'your name' (the one you made in step 1) and find your activity 1 word file. You will then change the name of that file to be 'finished' (change it from "activity 1" to "finished") (right click gives you extra options)
7) See if you can save this picture into your 'your name' folder (remember right click gives you extra options) and see if you can figure out how big the picture file is.

Following the computer basic' introduction/review, I will pass back the typing sheets and explain how the extra credit will be earned.  Students will log into their typing accounts and work on lessons for about 10 minutes. Remember to write down all scores (either passing or as a practice) and have me check off any passing scores.

Today's Objectives:
Students will be able to log into their typing account and know how to record their typing scores.
Classroom Agenda:
At the beginning of class we will review the class webpage & edline, and go through the different sections.  The class homepage will only be used in class - you won't have to access this at home. I will pass out a sheet with the class web address in case you want to review it at home (or are sick, etc.)
We will then look back at the typing program (many of you used in 6th or 7th grade). I will pass out the typing statistic sheet and explain how you will record your typing data. - I will have an example on the overhead. All students will take a typing pre-test that will be recorded on your stat sheet but not count towards your grade. You will also have time to begin working on your typing lessons and start recording your scores - today, students will log into their own typing account and learn about the different features of the program.
